Mexico’s National Center for Disaster Prevention (CENAPRED) on December 2 warned people not to approach the Popocatépetl volcano after the agency’s seismic monitoring system identified 51 exhalations and two explosions in a 24-hour period.CENAPRED said the explosions produced columns of ash more than 1.5 miles (2.5 km) high, and warned of falling fragments within the area of the volcano.
